2. Tandoori Chicken @ Puk Putra

This Indian-Pakistani serves amazing tandorri chicken from clay ovens which gives the meat a smokey favour. They have butter chicken too which is made with a tomato base, very creamy and buttery. Indeed one of the best food in Malacca.

3. EggYoghurt Ice-Cream @ Jonker Night Market

It’s cute and comes in a little humpty dumpty egg-shaped stand. I had the lychee one, it was refreshing.

4. Nyona & Assam Laksa @ Jonker 88

The assam laksa is sour with a spicy kick, the nyona one rich and coconuty. Absolutely delicious, we ordered the biggest bowls with crunchy beancurd skin. Malacca food is amazing.

5. Cendol @ Jonker 88

Other than fiery laksas, Jonker 88 is famous for the cendol! The gula melaka in the cendol is thick and rich, coconut milk delicious and refreshing. They throw in some kidney beans in the cendol too, which is nice.

6. Taiyaki (fish pancake) Ice-Cream @ Jonker Night Market

Generous servings of ice cream, there’s even kaya filling in the fish pancake. Jonker street food is so colourful!

7. Mille Crepe Cake @ Nadeje Cafe

Nadeje’s cakes are legendary. Layers of crepes stacked beautifully between yummy fresh cream. We tried the original one with custard cream and tahitian vanilla beans. I loved this one, the vanilla was rich and it tasted like caramel. We also tried the tiramisu one, it was similar to the original one but without the sweet vanilla-caramel taste. I didn’t think it tasted of coffee or mascarpone cheese either.

8. Western Food @ Nadeje Cafe

Most people visit Nadeje for the mille cakes, but they do great western food too. Maggie had the tomato based pasta while I had creamy mushroom chicken chop. It was yummy, the spagetti was al-dente and the cream sauce with the chicken chop was rich and flavourful.

9. Korean Churro (J-Stick) Ice-Cream @ MashiOo

I love ice-cream, that’s why there’s so much ice-cream on this list! This is strawberry and yoghurt ice cream stuffed in the hollow of a corn-based Korean churro that is known as ‘J-stick’. This stick isn’t sweet nor salty, it’s like a very plain corn snack without any seasoning. It’s just 5MYR too, try it.

10. Pork Lard Popiah @ Poh Piah Lwee Dumpling

Pork lard in spring rolls! May not be for everyone, it can be pretty oily but lard is delicious, like bacon. The Melakan style of popiah is different from the Singaporean one. The turnip (‘bangkuang’) is stewed in dark sweet soy sauce and they use scrambled eggs instead of chopped boiled eggs. Try the nyona dumplings (‘bazhang’) at Poh Piah Lwee too, they put blue pea flower in it giving the rice dumpling an attractive blue hue.

11. Drinks @ Backlane Coffee

Visit this coffee place located in the backlane off Jonker Walk, the ambience is lovely and drinks are decent. The free wifi is fantastic and macaroons are yummy.

12. Potato Tornado @ Jonker Night Market

That’s one large potato sliced into a spiral, shewered and deep fried. Nomnomnom.

13. Dim Sim @ Low Yong Moh

This is probably the oldest dim sum place in Malacca and serves piping hot dim sum classics at affordable prices. Loved the beancurd wraps, carrot cake and egg yolk custard buns.

14. Grilled Cuttlefish @ Jonker Night Market

The dried cuttlefish is freshly grilled, hence it is hot and crisp. This snack is packed with umami goodness. Buy a packet home to share with family and friends.

15. Jonker Street Food at Night Market

Deep fried cuttlefish, char kuay teow and black carrot cake. Malaysian local delicacies – the fried noodles and carrot cake is pretty similar to what we get in Singapore. However the shilin-style battered and fried squid is special. It’s like shilin XXL chicken with squid instead of chicken.

16. Cocktails at Geographér Café

Drinks are pricey but looks and taste delicious! It’s on Jonker Walk, the geography is great for people watching.

17. Salted Crispy Fried Chicken @ Sea Monster

I love this one, it is fried to order so it is served piping hot. Chicken is tender and it’s served with generous amounts of spice and chilli powder. This stall does fried squid and smelly tofu too, which was very popular!
